Kansas Association of REALTORS® – Strat2020 Case Study
THE SOLUTION Year one laid the groundwork. It involved seven meetings, including a Broker Summit and several meetings to help the team think strategically about the future of the association and its members. Additional meetings helped expose the #strat2020 planning team to industry thought leaders who came in as guest speakers, trend reports, and a new approach to think strategically. Each meeting had a specific purpose to keep the group moving toward documented milestones. To make the most of their time together, team members received short homework assignments prior to meeting — review their most recent member survey, read the Danger Report, conduct phone interviews with stakeholders. The additional background information and research helped the team better identify KAR’s biggest internal issues and also external industry opportunities. THE STATUS
Kansas Association of REALTORS® (KAR) was looking for a new approach to their single day “Vision Team” planning. The organization wanted new energy around the planning process, to move the planning team past being members of a short-term committee and a bigger part of their strategic plan. A group of strategic thinkers would help KAR envision ambitious goals and a bold future for KAR.
#strat2020 — a new multi-step, multi-year process to replace the single planning meeting.
By the fall of 2018, KAR had a new 3-year strategic plan and baseline to continue working and updating the plan in years 2 and 3. They will look towards measurable benchmarks to verify their progress.
