Kansas Association of REALTORS® – VT2023 Case Study
It was disappointing to put strategic planning on hold for 12 months, but feedback from every member of KAR’s Vision Team revealed that it was worth the wait. The business environment and issues facing members was so different in 2020, resulting in a lack of energy and an air of uncertainty during the Pandemic. When the 15 member team (Executive Committee and other appointees) gathered in May, 2021 they spent a considerable amount of time discussing how the world was different, what members were missing, and how KAR needed to, and could respond in order to deliver more value to its customers.
The team committed to looking inside and outside of KAR to narrow down three significant issues that will become their strategic goals for the next three year cycle: goals around governance and extensive external collaborations that will benefit their members.
KAR is poised to present a new strategic plan to it’s full Board of Directors in October after a multi-phase, year-long planning process.
The process is successful for three reasons:
- A committed CEO and Board President who knew that strategy must address the biggest issues facing the association.
- Workgroup members who know they are part of a local association, but wear their state association hat when analyzing the current situation and deciding how to improve it.
- A big, bold vision that keeps the group focused on the best possible future for the organization.
